I'm not sure how well the bullets work with a screen reader.
Hi, Does anyone out there have any experience of installing e-Sword as a portable application - i.e. One that can be run from an external drive without having to install on the host PC/ lap-top? I currently have a personal lap-top (Lenovo Ideapad G580 under Windows 8) and a professional lap-top (Lenovo Thinkpad W520 under Windows 7).
I have e-Sword installed on both - but each of them references the files structures and resources installed on each machine. And of course my personal notes are potentially different on each machine unless I copy 'My Documents/e-Sword' onto an external drive and then synch on each machine. To remove this effort, what I am looking for is the ability to install e-Sword as a portable app on a USB drive (e.g. Thumb drive) so that all I have to do is plug the device into whichever lap-top I have with me and not have to worry about synchronising between the different machines.
So has anybody done this? If so, I would be grateful for any guidance as to how I could achieve this. Many thanks in anticipation, Eric. E-Sword can not be a portable app because of the way it uses the registry. That said, it can be installed on both machines, and set the resource location to be your thumb drive.
This is set under Options+Resource.+Location. You can also probably install it to your thumb drive, doing this on BOTH machines.
You will still probably need to set the resource location to be the thumb drive. The app will not be portable, in that you would need to install it on each machine you move your thumb drive to, but again on that machine, you install it to the thumb drive and set the resource location. An alternative would be sign up for a service such as Dropbox, but that would require Internet access to say in sync. If this is the case that the resources can be separate from the program and yet be used together ( like having the program on your computer, and the resources on a flash drive) than making a portable app with Cameyo may have just got a lot easier. It would probably be better to do the full install, program, and resources when building your app, but Cameyo, I believe turns your portable hardware into a hardrive, or something like that. Pretty much it makes programs you usually have to do full installs with, into apps.
This is all theoretical, but if you have a little time you might want to give it a shot. You could make an app out of just the program (E-Sword) and keep your resources in a separate folder on the same Flash Drive.
If both can be separate and run at the same time, you could have all you need on one flash drive, but in seperate folders. I don't see why this couldn't work, theoretically.

Like I said, I am going to attempt it. I am going to try to download as many resources as I can, and do a full install when building my app. Ill keep you guys posted. God Bless Also. Once the app is built. You can simply copy and paste to transfer, if it works, to give to your friends.
